Beijing

Beijing is recognized as the political, educational, and cultural centre of the People's Republic of China, having approximately 13 million residents within its urban boundaries. It seemed that most of them, and countless Chinese on holiday from other parts, were visiting the tourist attractions with us! Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Mao's Mausoleum, The Great Wall and more - lots of interesting destinations for the tourist.

Crowds of Chinese tourists (and a few foreigners too) throng the spaces of Tiananmen Square.

Mao's Mausoleum. A much respected attraction in the city.

Tourists enjoy the beautifully colourful and elegant architecture of the Forbidden City.

Another view of the Forbidden City. And here's another.

The majestic Temple of Heaven.

Narrow back-streets barely wide enough for two rickshaws to pass by.

Hundreds of tourists make their way along the Great Wall of China. It's a lot hotter and harder than it looks!

A view of the Wall from one of the Towers along the way. Note that the Wall continues down into the valley and up the mountains on the other side.
