The World at Night Gallery

I have a dilemma here. I'm a keen astronomer who treasures dark skies for the beauty that they reveal - thousands of stars, star clusters, constellations, planets, nebulae and the majestic expanse of the Milky Way. On the other hand, cities, with their incredibly careless use of light splattered all over the place provide some interesting subjects for night time photography. If only the stray light could be restricted to the city boundaries so that everyone could see the beauty of the night sky without having to travel significant distances to darker locations.
