Tongariro National Park

One of best walking areas in the world, the region is dominated by volcanoes, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. Magnificent scenery and fresh air, an absolute pleasure to spend a few relaxing days there.

Wikipedia entry for Tongariro National Park is here.

The tumultuous Huka Falls. A huge volume of water exits through a narrow channel. Beautiful turquoise colour. Here's another view.

An idyllic scene on the shores of Lake Taupo.

Dormant volcano, Mt Ngauruhoe, dominates this scene in the Tongariro National Park.

Mt Ruapehu which blew its top in 1996. Note the Summer snow cover.

The walking trail to Taranaki Falls

A beautiful scenic view in Tongariro with Mt Ruapehu in the distance. Excellent walking.

Yours truly enjoying the sunny weather (and a well-earned rest?) on the way to the falls.

Taranaki Falls.

Another view of Taranaki Falls. A few walkers are rather close to the edge.

Sunset colours give Mt Ngauruhoe an almost benign appearance.

A reflection of Mt Ngauruhoe and outdoor furniture on the terrace of the hotel. Just a few millimeters of water was all it required for this mirror-like reflection.
