November 08 UTC The second Mercury transit of the 21st Century took place on 2006 November 09 (local). This one was observed from Box Hill, Melbourne, under almost ideal conditions. The sun was heading towards minimum activity - only one sunspot, near the limb, was visible. From Melbourne the transit started at 19:15h UTC on the 8th (6:15am on the 9th, local) and finished at 00:14h UTC on the 9th (11:14am, local). |
Taken at about 9:30am local time through a telescope with an effective focal length of 1680mm and f/11 with an OD 5 solar filter fitted to the front. |
