Western Australian Birds

In March 2010 I had a fantastic holiday in Western Australia. Starting in Perth I travelled north to the Pinnacles, Geraldton, Kalbarri and finally, to Denham, where I found emus wandering down the main street oblivious to the traffic that stopped or took detours to avoid collision!

I expected to find similar bird species to those in Victoria, but was delighted to see many new (to me) kinds. There were many different kinds of honeyeater and a highlight was seeing a small flock of red-tailed cockatoos. They were not tolerant and I could not get close enough to photograph. Nevertheless I marvelled at their beautiful contrast of brilliant red tail spots against black.
